Credit where credit is due time: I’m about to say something nice about ICBC.
In preparation for our recent sick days news release – where we revealed that the 410,000 government employees in B.C. take an average of 12 sick days a year each, compared to the 7.4 taken by their private sector counterparts – we requested sick day information from several government agencies and Crown Corporations.
On Friday afternoon, ICBC’s response arrived, and they report an average of 6.5 sick days per employee – actually less than the private sector. No doubt this has a lot to do with the nature of ICBC jobs – mainly office and white collar work, but still, kudos to ICBC for outdoing the private sector average.
2012 – 6.5
2011 – 6.3
2010 – 6.5
The FOI does note this doesn’t include medical or dental appointments, which probably puts them at the private sector average.
Now, address your executives’ pay packages and we may be on to something.
